The existence of Zero Point Energy is not controversial in today's accepted
physics, but it's practical aspect is. The extraction and use of vacuum - zero
point energy is for all intense and purposes a modern perpetual motion machine
that would violate the thermodynamic law of conservation of energy.
This fact alone, obviously makes discussing and researching areas of
practical applications of ZPE as untouchable as they come. The mere fact that a
scientist may be investigating the possibilities that one or several of our
already accepted laws (in physics) may be incorrect or incomplete would make
them heretics in the eyes of their fellow scientist.
Of course, most revolutions in science & technology usually happen by people
who dare to walk the edge (or Fringe) of known science, and aren't discouraged
by "Laws" that forbid investigations to the contrary. Remember, that not too
long ago, most people were convinced that the earth was as flat as a pancake
until of course Christopher Columbus proved them wrong.
The ironic thing about this whole flat earth theory was that the ancient
Greeks not only knew (and clearly stated) that the earth was spherical, but had
also calculated the circumference of the planet to within a few hundred miles.
Kind of makes you wonder what was going on in peoples minds during Columbus's
days.
In any case, it's important to looks at things in terms of
possibilities and not absolutes and exclusions.
Below are the next 6 videos in a series of (11) discussing the possibilities of
extracting and using some of this vacuum energy. Enjoy!

Once again, one cannot overstate the practical aspects to using
vacuum energy rather than current methods of energy production.
We should also take a moment to consider what, if any
ramifications there may be if we were to open a hole in the vacuum field. The
first question that comes to mind is, can we close it at will and control how
much energy can be extracted, or are we opening up the flood gates?
I have a suspicion that we're going to find out soon enough.
Why? Because if there's one characteristic property to human nature, is that if
we can, then we probably will.
