The basic concept behind wind energy is really quite simple. Large wind turbines (typically 3 rectangular or wing shaped blades on a rotating shaft) that rotate when air pushes (passes or around them).
The wind acts on the wings in a way that makes the shaft rotate. This shaft thru the principal of Electromagnetic Induction (Michael Faraday principal) acts as a generator which produces DC electricity while it turns.
The electricity is either stored in batteries (for later use) or is directly converted to AC thru the use of inverters.
Because the technology is relatively simple, and the turbines can be used just about anyplace at anytime (24 hr/day, as opposed to solar), this alternative method of energy production is gaining a lot of popularity and in turn investors, especially by Local, State & the Federal government.
Look at it this way, if you had a large wind turbine on your property, you may be producing enough electricity to not only be "Off the Grid", but sell some back to your local utility company. Now, how's that sound?
There's currently a major push in the U.S. (and abroad) to start manufacturing large scale wind farms that have hundreds or perhaps thousands of these wind turbines. Can you imagine how much demand that will produce for people in the construction / energy industry? Not only general construction, but more specifically skilled "Electricians", who have the experience (and know-how) working with electricity and power production & distribution.
My guess is that in the near future, there may be specific licensing for the Alternative Energy or Green Electrician, but as in many cases, those who have been in it for a while will probably be given the opprtunity to be grandfathered in.
Looks like a great financial opportunity here for those willing to invest some time learning new technologies as well as those with a little foresight!
