As with the other types of Jet Packs & Rocket Belts that we
discussed on Page (1), the JetLev is a similar type of devices
that is worn (by a single person) on the back, which expels (in this case) water in order to propel the user into the air.
This particular type of Jet Pack has the advantage (& disadvantage) of having
the engine & fuel in a seperate vessel (that looks like a bulky surfboard)
tethered behind it at all times. This means that the majority of the weight is on
the water and not on the user's back, so this in turn increases it's lifting
capacity & range far beyond the other type of Jet Packs.
The bad thing
about this, is that you're always tethered to the vessel on the water, so your
altitude will never go beyond the hose (tether), and you'll always be above
water and not land. But other than that, there's a lot to like about this
device.
This design is fairly new and looks to be very appealing
for the same type of consumer that would buy a Jet ski. The JetLev lifts to
about 30 ft in height, can fly about 40 miles per hour and can stay in they air
for about 1-2 hours.
Take a look at the videos showing the JetLev in action.
Enjoy!

The following 5 videos are a series of flight
instructions for the JetLev.
This kind of performance obviously makes it
incredibly useful and at the same time very marketable.
The
JetLev is sold by MS Watersports GmbH in Germany and they currently have 2 models
for sale. The 155 HP model sells for 99,000 Euros, and the 215 HP for 119,000
Euros. Starting in April 2009, JetLev Sports Inc. in Florida will begin taking
orders, and there is an approx. 3 month lead time before you'll get yours.
Obviously, this isn't a toy for everyone, but if you've got the money
then you potentially have an extremely exotic and fun toy to play with.
So
these are obviously super cool flying devices and also very practical, but not
necessarily from a financial point of view.
Another concern about these is that some agency (probably sooner
rather than later) will no doubt look to regulate these, one way or another.
Hopefully they won't overkill this one with stifling legislation and will let us
have some fun!
